As summer is here in New York, my secret WFH formula is to wear a tank top during the Oklahoma Sooners one nation under god shirt and by the same token and day, but throw on a blazer when I have a call. I actually prefer to keep my apartment temperature at 68 degrees, so it’s always chilly enough to wear a light jacket, even when it’s sweltering outdoors. I decided to finish off my look with a pair of Dior clogs I bought secondhand that were a steal. While I haven’t been able to sport them as often as I would like, putting them on after months-long quarantine has given me small moments of joy. Working at a media company, we’re always looking ahead to the next story, but during this time in self-isolation, I’ve been trying to carve out some time to pause, sit, and reflect on the work that we’ve done in the past. I’m especially proud of Vogue’s June/July issue, which features a single red rose by Irving Penn on the cover. It was a special issue, not only because it signified both hope and a reawakening, but because it was put together while the entire Vogue staff was under lockdown, when no photoshoots were possible. It was a tremendous effort and one that makes me feel proud. I love to start my days with writing my to-do list. It helps me organize my thoughts before the day inevitably takes unexpected twists and turns. If there’s one silver lining to working remotely, it is that I can still wear my favorite fall outfit in the middle of summer, and my body will never know the difference (thanks to cutting out my daily subway commute). This Proenza Schouler tie-dye skirt is one of my go-tos, partly because its velvet texture is ultra comfortable against my skin. If you can’t tell already, I’m a big fan of Jack and Lazaro’s work. More recently, I’ve been obsessed with their sandals collaboration with Birkenstock. I’ve been wearing them nonstop. As the week eases towards the end, my wardrobe follows suit. One of my favorite work-from-home hero pieces is my Jacquemus striped cardigan. I love to throw it on over a T-shirt and it makes me feel put together while cozying up on the couch or while sitting at my desk during a meeting. During this time at home, setting aside to read in the evenings has helped me separate my work life from my personal life. One book I’ve been reading is Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning by Cathy Park Hong.
Oklahoma Sooners one nation under god shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
As many of us are having difficult conversations right now with friends, families, and colleagues about race here in the Oklahoma Sooners one nation under god shirt and by the same token and United States, this book has been incredibly introspective for myself, allowing me to confront issues that I’ve faced but not dealt with. I highly encourage anyone who might be interested to give it a read. Summer Friday is here! I usually try to let myself relax a little more by the end of the week to enjoy the long, sun-filled days. Sitting outside on my stoop on Fridays to work helps me feel like I’m not just letting the season slip by. I’ve been living in this green tie-dye Proenza Schouler sweatshirt and my go-to Prada bucket hat has been a savior during particularly hot summer days. Every Friday evening, I always have a weekly call with my best friends, so inevitably breaking out a glass of rosé is the perfect way to end the week. Because I’ve been sheltering in place in California with my family but working on New York time, my day starts at 6 AM. The meetings that used to feel early in the office are even more so these days. If we’re being honest, preparing for those early Zoom calls involves slapping on some concealer and throwing a cardigan over my pajama shirt, but I have found that committing to some kind of routine helps me stay focused. So I try to at least honor that by eventually putting on pants and washing my face by mid-morning. Spending an indefinite time not at home (and thus living out of a suitcase) pushed me to be strategic with packing, making me pare down to the items I love and wear most. As a result, I’ve kept my wardrobe pretty relaxed. The days here are hot, but the evenings cool down — plus I spend most of my hours indoors, tethered to my laptop, with the air on. I’ve been relying on a mix of trousers and tees and light layers, with some summer dresses mixed in. These tend to be my busiest days with calls and meetings, so I stick to basics. I’m a pants gal to my core, and these Tibi trousers check all my boxes — a high rise, classic stripes, and a light material that’s good for California heat. I wear a sleeveless tee and a cropped cardigan on top, plus my favorite small gold hoops.
